Creating the advert

The only chance you have got to get peoples attention in buying a car is the sales pitch you create in the advert. That is why the text has to be very informative because vague statements are just a waste of time. Make every word count and do not waste the readers' time by writing statements such as 'no time wasters' or 'careful owner' because they are meaningless. Here are examples of what should be included in the advert:

1. The exact make, model and specification of the car e.g. engine, trim and body styles, such as 'Ford Mondeo 2.0TDCi five-door hatch'.
2. There are two number plate changes a year, it is essential you include both the year and registration letter, such as 2004/54 number plate.
3. Include the manufacturers colour name or say whether it is a light, mid or dark colour and also state if it is metallic colour.
4. State the exact mileage on the car and do not just write whether it is low or high mileage.
5. Say exactly how much road tax is left on the car and this also applies for the MOT. Also state if there is a full service history and whether or not the work has been carried out by a main dealer or by an independent specialist.
6. Write down how many previous owners the car has had.
7. Name the key features that your car has e.g. air conditioning, alloy wheels, sat-nav etc and whether they are standard-fit items or optional extras.
8. Make sure you include a price and don't just say 'open to offers'.
