When to sell your car

The time of year does make a difference when to sell a car. A common example was when convertibles were only selling in the summer, but modern convertibles are so well engineered that they can be used all year round comfortably. Off-roaders or 4x4s used to sell best in the winter, but with demand for SUVs being consistently high, and with the cars now being so usable on a daily basis, there is less difference in values throughout the year.

If a car is in pristine condition, it will sell at any time of year because the best cars always do. However, if it is of average condition then you need to be more careful with your timing. There are two peaks in the new car market and they are 1 March and 1 September. These create knock-on peaks in the used car market, this is why around these times there are always a larger amount of cars because of the high number of trade ins.

That being said, it is more likely that cars sell best when the weather is decent. Poor weather does not make people feel like they have to stand outside looking at a car as they would rather stay in doors where it is warm and dry.
